Mayfield Place is actually Colonial Street on Universal Studio's back-lot, which has appeared in numerous movies, TV shows and music videos. It is the stereotypical picket-fenced all-American suburbia - just a nice place to live. Those of you who are fans of Desperate Housewives (which has some storylines reminiscent of The 'burbs) will know it as Wysteria Lane (and it may be remembered as this for a long time given how successful that wonderful show has been).
Most of the buildings only have a front facade, and they are used for storage when not in use. As Eva Longoria (from Desperate Housewives) put it "It is eerily perfect and wickedly dark and terribly beautiful. It's the front that we all put on - keeping up with the Joneses, my lawn is as perfect as the next lawn. Just like the houses here on the lot - it's all fake fronts, and what find inside is pretty empty and disgusting".
