Things you may or may not have spotted.
Carol's "Vision"
Carol says "now before somebody falls off a roof or sets themselves on fire..." the day before the assault upon the Klopek's house.

Rumsfield falls off his roof |

Ray pretty much sets himself on fire when he accidentally blows up the Klopek's house. |
Maybe Ray should have listened to his wife!
Bingo Cards
The Klopek's garbage had Bingo cards in it. It's possible that the Klopeks played bingo themselves but more likely it was some left-over garbage from the Knapps - they'd only been gone a month, which gives three prior garbage collection days.

Green Lights
There are a lot of Green Lights in The 'Burbs, especially around the Klopek's house. There's one in their garage and some more in the basement. What's the significance of this? Some of the locations you may or may not have noticed green lights:
- In the alternative ending on the DVD, right at the end, there is a green light in the round window at the front of the Klopek's house.
- When Hans Klopek is putting out the garbage (and banging the hell out of it with a stick) there is green light on the driveway coming from the side of the house (possibly upstairs window). It can't be the one in the garage since it appears even before the garage door opens.
- There is also a green light in the garage itself which you can see when the Klopeks "go to the university".
- In Ray's dream, green lights light up the faces of people doing the ritual.
Werner's Shadow
As Werner comes up the stairs, his shadow gets larger which is obviously impossible if it's from the basement light. This was probably an intentional thing by the director to parody cartoons which show the villain's shadow getting bigger. It also adds an air of comedy when you actually see how small the doctor actually is.
Sugar Substitute?
When Werner gets out his jar of sugar substitute, check out the expressions on Bonnie and Carol's faces and how they relax when they realise it's sugar substitute. Ray covers up his cup with his hand.
We must all go to the university
Bonnie smiles when Werner says that they may be moving again.
Reub and Rumsfield
In the scene where everyone goes over to say hello, right after the dog comes up out of the basement, everyone gathers on the back porch. After Reub walks through the door he closes the insect screen behind him, straight into Rumsfield's face.
Nightmare Tree
The tree that appears in Ray's nightmare (as a result of watching a horror movie on TV) is similar in shape to the one in front of the Klopek's house.

Walter's Calendar
The calendar in Walter's kitchen is showing the month of June.
